Ghost of You
By: Ariana Strong
A few years ago, today, my heart was broken in two.
I’m forever haunted by the ghost of you.

Do you know that since then, I’ve never been the same?
No matter where I go, trailing behind me is the ghost of you.

Our dog waits in the field today. Tennis ball by his paws.
I want to run with him, but I am stuck in this house with the ghost of you.

The flowers in the garden sit and wilt each day.
I think the garden too, knows only the ghost of you.

I still see you sitting on our bed, reading that book we loved.
But it sits and collects dust, read only by the ghost of you.

Cleaning up the house today, I found your favorite red shirt.
I slid it on so I could once again feel the arms of the ghost of you.

The steady stream of water in the shower still carries your voice true.
You tell me these feelings fade away, but how can it when I am the ghost of you?
