Catalyst Sonnet
by: Ariana Strong
There is no noise here. Where my worries thrive.
Where my dreams are destroyed by acid might.
“Get a job in science to stay alive.”
I don’t want to. Stories I want to write.
In my dreams when I think of you, I cry.
My air thins. Chemicals bubble and stew.
Daily the beaker breaks. Soon, I will die.
I just might let it. But I don’t want to.
I change. The chemicals are neutralized.
Instead, it is I who bursts. My heart flees.
Relief and love sparks. Fire catalyzed.
Free liquid sodium slid down my cheeks.
I begin to write. “The sun shines sharper…”
There is noise here. My hopes and dreams prosper.
